I don't even think this is the right place and its not even worth a topic really..

I've looked on google (although not hard enough) and all the options I usually clicked on but I cant change the font colour of desktop items.

I have a white background and want the text to be black... If I go

properties > appearance > advanced, it won't let me change the font colour. It's all greyed out.

You can just get rid of text if it's so annoying.

Right-click --> rename. Hold Alt and type 255 using numpad, then release Alt. Job done :)

Right click "My computer"->properties->advanced->Performance(settings)-Visual Effects. Change to custom and uncheck, or check, "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" and maye "Enable deskstop compostion". Can't really test it as Vista does it automatically for me!
