I have a 8800 gtx, but it's getting a bit old... SLI or get a newer card ? prob only got about 300 quid to spend a new card.

Q6600 @ 3.6 (will go faster)
4 gig ram
Linux OS, with Windoz for games

Asus P5K3 or P5K (P35 chipset) water cooled CPU on a triple rad (think it's the black ice one) with two crappy fans for normal running and a delta for when gaming ( i get nervous at 45 degrees....)

I'm not sure on the ATI as i have heard of problems with linux (or rumours)

yer i've just read the reviews of the 470 and the 480 and it seems to be a coffee maker with a vacuum attachment....

I'm in two minds,,, 5870 or sli 8800 gtx to get me through a few more months.

How much can you get an 8800GTX for though? Depends how deep your pockets are too. Generally new tech is going to be a lot better, but the depreciation is fierce.

Well a 8800 GTX can be had for 80 odd quid... might keep me going for a while as i'm still looking @ bad things for the ATI stuff on linux...

oooo i hate it when i have to make a choice like this...
last time i went down the ATI route with linux it was rather painful... but the new Nvidia cards are pooooooooooo r

Things run better when they're not overheating, however the manufacturers and engineers know the temps that hardware is good to work at.

To get nervous over a figure you've set yourself is a bit odd considering it's entirely unrelated to the hardware itself.

I'm not knocking liking low temps of course, they're beneficial for overclocking and such, but I don't quite get why you feel nervous over a figure you set yourself.

I have know idea..... i think it's more to down with the fact my PC is about a foot away and when it starts puting out some heat i end up playing games with the window open and my t-shirt off !!! LOL

nuts..... Crossfire support

P5K Premium/WiFi-AP
intel centrino2
The 3rd Generation Black Pearl Special Edition P5K Premium motherboard

can i still do nvidia, or will this cause me problems ?
