Looking at a file server but i really need it to be pretty much silent and cheap... Doesnt have to be mega.. Its only going to be running XP Pro and with a couple of decnet hdds in it. So wondering if i should go for one of the Celeron 4xx series or one of the AMD Sempron LE1xxx series as both are silly cheap but the sempron only runs at 45w so would be close to running passive...

Anyone got any ideas?

I would get the cheapest C2D you can find as they are very low wattage. I am running a arctic freezer 7 pro on my E6750 and its 30c idle with 800RPM - which I cant hear. Also use your current/old PCI-E graphics card to install everything then set up remote desktop and remove the graphics card. It will run really really cool and probably wont need to have much air flow from case fans :)

I have seen mobos what have the SIS chipset for £27 but the difference between the celeron/sempron is about £20 and not worth the extra for a machine that is going to be used remotely anyway...
