Really,really confused if I should get a 9800GX2(my current pc died)

Hey all, I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now. My current pc died on me (7800GTX burned out + Gigabyte 945p) except for my E6600 which survived. I'm interested in getting a new pc but the only problem is the what graphics card I should get... Should I get an 8600GT now and then wait for the next gen nVidia cards to be released or should I just dive right in and get a 9800GX2? Another alternative is to just stick with my backup PC for the time being(9800pro/intel 2.4ghz:() and just get everything at once?

So confused! Please help :(

P.S- I can't really afford an 8800GT now then get a GT100/200. Will the 8600GT be enough for WoW?

My main monitor is a 17" LCD but I game on a 42" Sharp Aquos(1920x1080).

Main games are CSS,WoW and I'm always into trying new singleplayer games like Crysis etc I guess...but mainly WoW. My Budget would be in the 1000 range(pounds).

Then drop a 1500pound bomb when nehalem comes out? :p

Yeah I'm guessing it would be enough for now...god why did Nvidia have to make this so hard :P
I think I'll stick with this budget build and hope its enough...then when the next-gen stuff finally comes out I'll get that.
 
If you can afford it, yes. Its as simple as that.

If you cant afford to buy a GX2 now, and then replace it in 8 or so months with the next gen then dont.

I can afford to buy the GX2 now but I can't afford to change it 8 months. I'd feel terrible if I dished out 430 pounds for a graphics card then realize that a newer one is coming it REALLY soon. I mean, technology is moving forward all the time but isn't the GX2 essentially two GTS's put together?

I think form an economic point of view the best thing to do would be to buy the budget build then go all out when the new stuff truly comes.
 
I'd say get a cheap P35 mobo, any will do, however the OcUK Value/J&W IP35 is a solid clocker though since you already own an E6600. I'd forget the ASRock board, it's only really useful as a interim hybrid setup when you want to keep your old DDR1 RAM and AGP graphics card. DDR2 goes for pennies these days so there's no reason not to get some now.

I'd also wait for GT200/RV700 cards and either get an 8800GT or the newer 9600GT to keep you ticked over until then.

You can always ebay it after a few months if that ever happened.. You'd probably make a loss, but it shouldn't be a big one.

Yeah and I've already got a spare 1GB DDR2 RAM. I Guess I'll just get the P35 instead of the Asrock and hold of til the G200/RV700 comes out.
 
Do yourself a favour. Get a 8800GT for £130ish and save yourself £300. The 8800GT is much faster than your 7800GTX was. Get a P35 mobo and some geil ram (2gb circa £35). and you'll be all set.

What make is your old 7800gtx? If it is still in Warranty, you'll probably find youself receiving a 8800gt as a replacement.
