I bought a Linksys WRT54G about 6 weeks ago and after the initial hassle of getting all my wireless devices to see each other everything seemed o.k. until about 3 weeks ago. For some reason the router keeps dropping my internet connection and I have to manually change it from 'Static IP' to 'Automatic Configuration DCHP' or vise versa in the router setup. This proved slightly annoying but wasn't too much of an issue as you would change the connection type and it would work for a few days before having to reconfigure. (I'm with Virgin Media)

However today I was surfing the GD board clicked on a link and the page cannot be displayed error appeared, o.k. I thought its an external link must be broken, then I realised MSN had signed out and other pages had died as well. So its now dropping connections while I using it now! Grrrrrrr!

Is this something that can be easily fixed, I've looked for firmware but can't find anything suitable as everyting seems to require version 6 or 8 of the router and guess what, I have version 7!

If the firmware update doesnt fix it try disabling Wireless Zero Configuration i the services list.

To access it go to start>run, type services.msc & press enter, you will find it 3rd from bottom, first stop it then change the start up type to disabled.

Maybe try changing the frequency of the wireless signal.

I got lots of connection drops to my WRT54GL and couldn't figure out what the problem was, then when I changed the channel the problems vanished. I think another wireless network was on the original frequency and it was interfering with my own network.
