A friend of mine called me to look at an issue he was having logging into one particular website.

He's recently got a laptop and thats where the issue is and he has a desktop machine (which he's trying to replace with the laptop) where the site works fine.

When he tries to log in to the site, the login form refreshes. Like it has logged in, but hasnt worked properly.
If he puts the incorrect password, he gets a message saying "incorrect password" only when the correct details are entered, he gets this blank screen.
The same username and password work fine on his desktop.

Things I have tried:
  • Running in safe mode to see if the problem was due to a program running
  • Put all IE security settings down to low
  • Resetting IE settings to default
  • Installed Chrome
  • Updated to Ie9
  • Updated Root certificates
  • Turned off the firewall
  • Resetting his password on the site
  • Trying from a different profile

None of these things work - he still gets the same issue. He has no problem logging into any other secure sites.

Im at the end of my tether!
Any other suggestions (please)

I have had this several times and not found a fix,

check the date and time,
try uninstalling any AV software - jsut to see if its the issue

you will probalby find a different browser will be ok.

when the things you listed and the things I noted above and all been checked I have not been able to find a fix, other than a work round by ising ff or chrome or a reinstall

Had it 4 times I think would be interested to know exacly what the issue is.....

Thanks for your reply

As you can see from my original post,. ive checked the details are valid on another PC and have tried Chrome which gave the same results as IE
