so my computer has been crashing erratically since i got it 2 weeks ago with the same error everytime video card device driver stuck in thread well anyways i followed a few of the troubleshooting guides and lowered the acceleration by 2 notches just enough so that i wouldnt effect my games infact i benched my games after than and i was getting a higher fps than before? i also changed my windows too the classic mode and i havent had a crash since.

what do you think was wrong with it? a buggy windows installation?

well anyways im running

8600gts
2gb ddr2 667mhz
amd x2 5600+
ASUS MV2 motherboard

Curiosity killed the cat, but is that a BFG 8600GT?. I had a pair of 7600GT's on a BFG nForce 680i that wouldn't stop doing this. The newer drivers seemed to help a lot, but they didn't remove the problem totally.

My first thought would be a power or card memory issue.
I would image it occurs when the card runs at full power ..

Is the PSU in the machine powerful enough for the card ?
