Really struggling with a monitor choice, pls help :'(

So let me start by saying I have a Asus Strix 1070 OC and I *think* 24" 1080p is what I need.

I had decided on the Samsung C24FG73, managed to get it for a great price of £200. However, when it was delivered it had a scratch on the bezel and a dead pixel so I've returned it. I was going to get another but having had a defective one and the price back up to £270 made me pause and reevaluate things.

My usage is 85% office and 15% gaming. I use this machine when I work from home 3-4 days a week doing mostly text based work. I also own a DSLR and edit photos in lightroom as a hobby.

So here are the 2 paths as I see it.

1) A 24" 1080p 144hz TN panel. This will provide the best gaming experience for games that are fast moving. The downside are colours and usual TN stuff.

2) An IPS monitor. Now IPS will - from what have read - provide better colours and contrast which will be better for my office work and photo editing. However, the trade off here is that at 1080p there is nothing that provides more than 60hz. I have seen some Samsung 75hz monitors but I can't find a definitive answer if the 75hz is only available with freesync enabled.

If I was going for IPS and resign to 60hz, then it may be a good idea to move up to 1440p IPS since the GTX 1070 should be able to handle 1440/60hz.

My budget is £400 max and I only have room for 1 monitor.

I'm currently leaning towards a Dell U2715H. This will provide 27" IPS 1440p 60hz which I think my GPU should be able to handle.

The other option is LG 24MP59G, but I'm not sure if it's 75hz when using Nvidia.

Thanks for the response. I finally settled on Dell U2414H mainly because 27" is too big for my desk (I sit quite close) and 1440p does cause a little eye strain due to the smaller text if I sit further back. I was tempted by the newer U2417H but it seems the older one has a better overall screen. The U2414H is also £180 delivered which is amazing value.

1080p should allow me to crank the settings up to max for many years and enjoy a very nice lookig image in games. 1440p I'd soon feel the strain on my GPU.
