hello,

I have built my friend an identical machine to mine except mine works. 1st the machine wouldn't boot unless u putt the memory in the 1st two slots now I cannot install the ati4850 card. If i install the driver when i re-boot i get a blue screen with something like dumping ram to something. the machine boots ok if I uninstall the ati driver but obviously its a low resolution.. I have tested my Ati4850 in my friends system and it still the same so it isn't the actual ati card or the memory. What else could it be the only difference between my friends pc and mine is the psu which he's got a corsair 550watt and i have a 350 watt one. The only other difference is that he is using a sata hdd where mine is ide. will swapping which sata port i plug his hdd into make any difference. I am 3 days in now and need ideas

u tried installing the drivers with just one stick on memory in ?, swap the sticks if the first stick still causes a problem.

also run memtest over the memory.

Ok the memory and gpu are fine as they work in my machine but my working gpu and memory still cause the problem in this other machine so it must be the motherboard or cpu. It is strange that the machine will only boot if you put the ddims in Ddim slot 1 and 2. If you put the ddims in say slot 1 and 3 etc the machine just keeps re-booting. could the cpu be doing this somehow?

i'd say it was possibly a problem with the memory slots on the mobo, take it if u try 2&4 or 3&4 the same thing happens ?

the memory only works side by side in slots 1 and 2 all the other combinations reboots machine instantly when turned on. Could this also cause vista to crash it says ati driver caused fault but that is a consiquence of something else either mobo faulty or cpu fried lol

ok i changed the processor over still getting the windows blue crash screen. So to recap i have swapped the gpu, ram and copu now is it the motherboard or could it be software related? I have a load of .dmp "dump" files but cannot open them?
