A friend just got a nasty cheap laptop from a competitor. It's an Advent QC430. It came with Vista but she needs XP to run some of her applications so I dual booted it. No problem there, but I am having real trouble getting it to recognise it has a sound card, it just doesn't appear on the system in XP. In Vista it's seen as 'Conexant High Definition Audio' but searching for solutions to this problem has proved fruitless :( Can anyone please help?

EDIT: Ok, I was being foolish one one of the above accounts. The sound card is being seen by the system as an unknown PCI device, but I still can't find any drivers.

Thanks for the reply, I did see that thread in my search but the links they posted don't work any more :(

Have a look at the sound drivers here:

There are drivers for "Conexant High Definition Audio Drive drivers" but these are advertised as for a compaq machine, might be worth a shot though.

Alternatively their are some " Realtek High Definition Audio (Azalia) sound card for XP" drivers.

Thanks Ranek, the Realtek High Definition Audio (Azalia) sound card for XP worked to some extent :) The trouble is that although windows seems happy with them, I cannot seem to use the device as an audio device. ie, nothing shows up in control panel -> Sounds and audio device properties. Any ideas?

No idea sorry, i just happen to work for that company and so know where to find their drivers on their sometimes..less than easy to navigate sites ;)

Someone more technically able may be able to help you there though.
