Really unusual idea, Do you think it would work?

So we've all heard of the PC in a desk, Well, if you followed my last thread, you'll know I have absoloutley no room for a desk in my bedroom... However I do have a TV bed, Now what does every TV bed have on the side....

26_1.jpghttp:

(Not my personal bed but same model in Double with 42" 4K in the footend...)

Yep, a Space for Av Equipment... Do you see where this is going yet??

Uh huh, I intend to build a 4K gaming rig in that little cubby hole!!!!

Not 100% sure its going to work yet, haven't got all the details sorted out yet... So what do you guys thinl? is this a project that may be possible??? Any ideas on problems that may arise? I think the main one may be Air flow, but it'd be watercooled anyway....

(FYI, Money is no object.... I'm an inspiring Engineer and this is the sort of thing I'd love to do... If not I'll do the same thing in a Design R5/Enthoo Primo....)

As far as I can tell, this will be the first thing of its kind... I expect this will take a good year to plan out...

You stuck an extra 'http' at the end of the link :D

It'll work fine providing you can cool it ok. The space looks large enough but you'll need to measure it properly first.

You've mentioned water cooling which will still need decent airflow across the rads to work

Ahhh Noob mistake then, Thanks for the Re-Upload.... May consider routing some tubing down to the footend and securing Rads down there with some low RPM Fans... sheet of perspex/Glass across the front with an ATX or even an EATX (May be pushing it a bit though)

At the moment have a Blu ray and xbox in there so Is a large enough space... The back of that compartment has a space along the lip end for cables... So that will be a big help.... I think if I made up some sample MB trays at work and tried some fitting....

Certainly would be the first of its kind....

Can't you just slide a whole PC under the bed?

And trail the BluRay player or switches to the surface.

Don't think I'd trust the motherboard/components not being in a PC case under there, what if the bed collapses?

It's hardcore reinforced underneath. Solid Legs every foot or so with Sturctural beems everywhere, These things are built to last.....

I could but wheres the imagination in that, I imagine if I cant get it done that will be my other option....

Also think that Airflow woul dbe a bit restricted in a case down there

I don't see any reason why it wont work. Hanging bits of bedding could be a problem, so the design should account for foreign objects entering the space. Will take quite a bit of work to make it look nice though.

Me neither, I think the biggest problem I will come across is Airflow... As it stands now my plan is to run some Hardline Tubing out of the "Cubby hole" along the bottom (inside the base obviously) To the base of the bed as I have about a Foot and a half of space before the TV Mechanism where a few 560 Rads could easilly be fitted.... As far as I can tell it's a wood base down there with a Metal frame so a simple unstitch and a few holes in that Wood base before re-stitching would allow for a clean installation of those Rads...

Only problem is where that airflow would go after passing through the rads.... Could possibly fit fans on the other side as the mattress starts above where the rads would be placed to disperse under the bed frame....

Also could be possible to use the side rails for the same purpose which may work a bit better.... Would use less tubing and clearer airflow.....

Definitley going to take some thought I think.... Did have a measure and can Easilly fit a Eatx in there....

Would also put a solid sheet of either Glass of Clear perspex across the opening so nothing can get in there... Also the work is the bit i'm most excited for.... always love a challenge + am Slightly OCD

For example one of these:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-057-WC&groupid=962&catid=1523

On either side of the Cubby hole in the rail could work.... Perhaps even go for the big guns and use four (2 on each side)

Either that or with a rough measurement 3x 560s could fit on each side again.... So that could potentially be 12x 560s for 6720mm of cooling space... Some 800RPM Bequiet fans on there could make for a super silentish cool PC....

Add a couple more fans in the Hole itself to push out anymore remaining heat... Going to have to make up a few designs and fabricate some samples next week I think....

lolayawn.

No room for a PC but room for a huge bed with a 40" TV, and you want to do 4k gaming at 30fps on that? As I guess a TV is limited in that department?

Oh, but you had to mention, money is no object.

Then why not move, or put a bed that size in a sensible room, or get your PC on a wall bracket or such.

No room, but you then mention an R5 or Primo as again money is no object.

Personally I think a 4k gaming rig, built into a bed frame with a custom water cooling loop, where money is no object, with an FPS limited 4K telly, in a monsterous oversized bed within a bedroom you have no space to sit a PC or swing a cat, sounds preposterous.

And why link images similar to what you have instead of taking a picture of the room, your dillema, your intended space.

Good Points:

1) TV bed houses everything I need it to, Is no bigger than the equivelent 32" or 22" versions and has the same dimensions... Therefore I'm not wasting space on places to store Sky boxes etc. At for the TV itself, The TV is capable of ouputing 4k at 60HZ in 4:4:4, However its not the best quality and will either be swapped for something that does it efficiently in the future or for a proper 4K monitor of a similar size and just lose the tuner....

2) Helps for people to suggest ways of doing things.... Same with budgets.

3) Do you not think I have tried that card? yes I still live at home, I pay rent and technically I have a say... but they aren't going to just up and move just so I can have a desk....

As for the bed, it is incredibly uncomfortable sleeping on a single bed, I have tried it but my dimeminsions mean It doesn't really work... Small doubles are passable but woud make no difference to my desk space availability...

4) If I were to go that route, They would either have to be stored under the bed, Restricting Airflow, or squezzed into a corner somewhere. not something I praticually want to do...

5) Nice word... I'd like to know how a double bed is mosterously oversized if you'd be so kind.... its about an extra half a foot longer for the mechenism and a bit higher.... hardly any difference to a standard double? AS for the telly I've explained whats happening with that and the entire project is because why the hell not.... No different to people doing "PC Desks" i just don't have the room so am adapting it a little.... Whats wrong with doing something a litte different that technically the physics and maths indicates should work and save me a **** tone of space and solve all my problems in one....

6) Mixture of it being dirty, not having my camera on me and not being able to get as clear a shot as I could have done with a 5 second search... I do apologise, I'll include one next time.

Sorry for the Sarcasm... Can't hep it sometimes

Way to pi55 on his chips!

Daft idea IMO too but then there's no reason for the OP not to want to do it... I mean, I'm sure there are valid answers to the points you've raised! :p

Had curry last nights so no biggie ;)

Daft Ideas do work though, Sure the afremensioned PC Desk was seen as a Daft idea when it was first planned.... Valid? Thats for you lot to decide but I gave answers...
