Hi all,

I am currently using onboard AC97 sound on my machine, I have got a SB Audigy Plat in the other machine and thinking about putting it into this one.

One of the main reasons why I didnt put it in, mainly is because the drivers are terrible,

e.g. Windows XP doesnt detect it, tried downloading drivers from the web, but it said it couldnt find the card, installed the drivers on the CD and it worked fine, updated the drivers from the web site, and you just get 2 channel sound,

EDIT: I have Logitech Z-680 speakers

Did you try it in a different PCI slot? They can be fussy about that. When I put my new X-Fi in my machine basically found it OK but it just wouldn't work. The old SoundBlaster Live had been working just fine in that the same slot. So I tried moving the X-Fi down to the next slot and suddenly it all worked perfectly.

As for AC97......I used that before the SB Live and gave up after a week of sound cutting off randomly in games

The trouble with AC97 is that no two seem to be the same!

I mean, the NF7S SoundStorm is a brilliant performer for games etc, and thats AC97
And yet, there are a massive number of other boards that have onboard AC97 and its utter drivvel.

IMHO Any creative card will quite probably perform better than any OnBoard AC97 unless that particular AC97 has been given a big thumbs up... Such as the NF7S

Agreed on the PCI Slot thingy... Its the same with a lot of card, not just Creatives, and not just Audio cards too!

I got one card in my Work PC that I am using a VideoLogic Sonic fury, and one slot stops the GamePort working, another slot stops the Card from working altogether, and other slot and the USB/FireWire card becomes unstable for using USB FlashDrives... I have never had a good setup on it without resorting to accepting that I cant use the GamePort, and I never use that so...
