been doing some digging regarding my black screen crashes on bf3.

turns out its the realtek hd audio.

so what options do i have?

my gpu has hdmi could i disable the realtek and use my gpu for audio?(if i do this will i lose the front panel use?)

buy a sound card?

whats the best way to disable realtek???

will i lose the front panel audio if i put a sound card in???

it has been reported as a bit 'iffy' with a DG. I have one myself and cannot recommend it enough, especially with the audio on BF3 which let's be honest, is the best ever. I have not tried to use to front panel though.

Front panel audio works fine for me with both a DG and a DX.

The limiting factor is the quality of the connects between mobo and panel as these are prone to inteference. Not a fault with the card, just the fact the cables are close to lots of circuitry of one form or another.

I stick to rear panel anyway.

yeah ill probably stick with the rear aswell...but ill do some testing with both..

suppose im going to have to get a nice 5.1 headset aswell now...lol...

Definitely not in my opinion.

Spend the money a GOOD pair of Hi-Fi grade stereo headphones.

Lookup Sennheiser HD 518. Maybe out of budget but will last longer than most other peripherals.

Before you go splashing out on a new soundcard, disable your onboard audio in BIOS. Then test playing the game again, if you still get black screen crashes you know it isn't your sound causing it.

I've got Realtek audio and my BF3 works perfectly.

I had a friend who kept crashing on BF3 on new build, but once I got him to update his onboard sound drivers (believe it was realtek), the crashing stopped. So, atleast make sure everything is up to date :)

No problems with onboard Realtek HD audio here.

Are you choosing to install the nvidia HD audio driver that also comes bundled with the gfx drivers? I always de-select that option.

I use the latest drivers from my mobo's website :)

The headphone amp on the Xonar works well we a good pair of cans. I'm a bit believer in decent stereo setup beats pretend 5.1 but either I'm sure will do you good.

When I had the black screen between maps with just a mouse pointer issue it was all down to punkbuster. Manually updated punkbuster and no more problem. Realtek HD for me too.

This could be what is causing my game to randomly blackscreen pretty frequently...could anyone be kind enough to post links to the latest Realtek drivers so I can check em out when at home - at Uni atm.
