what i want to do is this:
be able to 'mute' my headphones but leave them plugged into the rear 'analog' panel of my pc.
i don't want to have to be constantly pugging/unplugging my headphones.
i have three standard output/inputs on the rear panel of my pc.
the front panel is not functional.
rear panel: the green [being the standard output] is what i am using to connect the pc to my amplifier and speakers.
i plugged my headphones into the blue socket, and sound came out...fine.
i have since learnt that the blue is designed as an input, so how is it working as an output?
apparently realtek 'allow' hot swapping from input to output on some iterations of their hd audio manager download.
in my 'sound' manager, only the speakers are listed as functioning.
after googling, i went into the advanced settings in the hd audio manager and selected front & rear panels to stream simultaneously (even though my front panel is not operational!).
thanks to the above, i now see my headphones listed in the sound manager underneath the speakers, but they show as not being plugged in when they clearly are.
the 'configure' button is also greyed out.
the properties window displays something interesting.
apparently the headphones 'jack information' list the front panel green output!
again, it is plugged into the blue socket on the rear panel!
how can i get seperate volume control for the headphones?
