realtek hd audio query

ive got this for my onboard sound but no matter what driver i use for it after i install you cant update or you cant go into control panel,but as soon as i uninstall them and let windows use its own drivers all is well any ideas please

well ive trieed from driver 1.71 upto 1.78 and still cant access control panel and windows update,but as soon as i uninstall them all is ok,well looks like i will have to buy a sound card

You've run into an obscure Vista bug by the looks of it. You can fix this by doing the following after installing your soundcard again:

Go to start/run, type services.msc and hit enter
Stop the software licensing service (it will say readyboost relies on it, disregard this as you can restart that service afterwards if need be)
Restart the software licensing service

Should work now. I think the bug only occurs if you haven't activated windows yet, but could be wrong.

hohum are you sure it is licensing service as cant find that in there m8,does it not come under anything else cheers

It's in the service list as 'Software Licensing'.

well m8 installed them and switched of software licensing and then it switched of readyboost,then switched back on software licensing like you said and also switched on readyboost and it is working,have i done it right m8 or was i surpose to leave readyboost switched of and cheers m8

Entirely up to you. It isn't a permanent change anyway, as on rebooting your pc readyboost will start up again.
