Realtek Keeps Thinking I've Connected Front Panel

Hi,

I took my PC case off to check something and since I have turned Windows back on I keep getting a message saying that I have something plugged into my front headphone and mic jack.

I checked the header cables and they all seem to be connected properly and nothing loose.

Anyone know what I can try?

When u say shorts, do you mean like any burnt parts around it?

I will check after work today. I may end up just completely dismantling the PC and starting from scratch.

I checked the cable that ended up going to F_AUDIO on my motherboard but it seems to be in good condition and pushed in fully.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Realtek Audio Manager but still same issue.

I unplugged the HD_AUDIO (F_AUDIO) connection and restarted, still same pop-up.

I then unplugged both of the F_USB1 and F_USB2 headers and same issue again.

Does this mean I really need to just remove everything from the PC (motherboard included) and start again?

UPDATE: I have just dismantled and reassembled the whole PC.

Still same pop-ups coming up.

Suppose the next step would be to run the PC without the case?

It is a horrid work-around but you could try changing the EnableDynamicDevices registry setting - usually located something like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\

Then find the audio device by selecting the key 0000, 0001, etc. and checking the DriverDesc and changing the EnableDynamicDevices under GlobalSettings between 00 and 01.

EDIT: You can also disable device detection somewhere in the RealTek control panel which is worth trying first.

I've also found this can happen with what seems like a stable CPU overclock but actually isn't so its worth trying without the overclock as well.

Would that effect my stuff working though?

I noticed if I put my headset and mic into the front ports the back orange port lights up as if something is connected :S

Even when I plug my headset in now the microphone/headset wont work.

I uninstalled all realtek stuff and restarted, what I noticed is if I open device manager and leave it on Sound, video and game controllers it keeps reloading as if something is changing.

I then right click volume and went to playback devices. It keeps flickering up saying HEADPHONES on FRONT JACK then disconnecting, constantly.

I then powered the PC without any of the Front Panel connectors installed onto the MB, the motherboard is still in the case just not powered by it, and the same problems came up.

I took the motherboard out of the PC and connected cables in, used screwdriver to power it with jumpers and same issue :(

(I removed any overclocking but same problem)

That means it's not front connectors/its cable which keeps Realtek insisting using front connectors.

And if sound isn't even actually outputted from that front connector I would say there's failure in motherboard/Realtek.
Certainly at least if disabling automatic detection doesn't change anything.

Well, that second PCI-e "x16" slot is electrically only x4 slot coming from motherboard's chipset, so you could put separate sound card into it without affecting first x16 slot and graphics card.

Yeah incase it was motherboard I looked at replacements but because it was old they are hard to find or expensive. At the same time if I upgraded I am then forking out for a new CPU and RAM too which would be even more :(

I have an external soundcard I use for my active monitor speakers anyway it was more just when I plugged in headset or mic it wasn't working.

I supose I could install a cheap soundcard into PCI as a temporary solution to headset.

I even seen a usb adapter for £4 that would let me connect my headset into pc.

If I done this would using a new GPU in that machine be risky with the audio failing on the motherboard? I just don't want anything causing issues because of it.

No sense to waste money into any PCI sound card which can't be used again because of antiquated bus.
Like I said that motherboard can take PCI-e sound card without affecting bandwidth of graphics card's slot.
And as you mentioned using also speakers wouldn't it be easiest to be able to keep everything connected and switch output from software?

Motherboard doesn't really have much ways to affect condition of graphics card.
Power of PCI-e slot comes directly from power supply and motherboard doesn't modify it.

Though that Corsair PSU has cheap capacitors and isn't meant to last.
So considering age of Haswell it might not be in best shape anymore if you have kept PC powered lot.

I tried connected my headset into the PODxt Live but you can't do it. I use this for connecting my guitar to the speakers so I can play along with songs.

Haven't had any issues with my Corsair PSU so far, (touchwood) but I agree getting 5 years from these components has been good, just don't want everything going at the one time.

A little update.

I completely wiped and reinstalled windows 10 and drivers again and the popup and telling me something is plugged into front panel has stopped appearing.

When I plug something into a port it shows the correct port on realtek but the microphone etc still doesn't work.

Has this made any improvement or is it.still broken?
