Realtek onboard is deafeningly loud

With my Asus motherboard (see sig) i've always used the onboard sound and had to keep the System Volume at about 20%. For some reason the front panel audio stopped working which was super annoying since thats what i connect my headphones to so i installed the latest set of drivers from the Realtek website. Now i have to keep the system volume at around 10% to 14%, anything above that is uncomfortably loud.

Is there someway to reduce the volumes so I can modulate things a bit better? Only being able to have the volume from 10 - 14 makes it hard to fine tune the volume.

so does the front panel now work or are
you plugging them into the speaker out on the back..

Front panel now works it just seems like the newer drivers have amplified the volume even more.

Stop using such low impedance headphones. That's about all you can do. Or get speakers with discrete volume controls.

You could also get a short extension cable with a built in volume control.
