Reapply thermal paste?

Hi,

My CPU (i7 920) and air cooler idle temp is in the high 40's. It's around 5 years old. Do you think reapplying some thermal paste (I have Arctic silver) will help reduce the temps a little?

give it a go, its worth a try, it cant do any harm, i change mine every year or so, or when i rebuild...

I used this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=OA-001-AK&groupid=701&catid=27 and some Arctic Silver ...just a pea sized amount though right in the centre

I use denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol. Very cheap and removes the thermal paste so easy with a cottom pad or tissue.
