Hi there, I got a old MSI 6950 2GB Rev 1 and it runs hot, very hot and has been running hot for the last 2-3 years or longer until I started to notice.

For example, it's currently at 89"C with 38% fan speed at idle with 3 screens running, that can drop down to 66"C when running one screen. When gaming it will run over 102"C and the fan speed will be over 55%+ which annoys me.

I never had any problems in games, I don't crash from overheating even after running games 5-8 hours none stop, no problems at all. My air cooling setup is good.

Now this is the question I want to ask, do you think it's worth the risk of getting the thermal paste removed and a new paste reapplyed? I've never done this.

My local PC store can do this for £15 all in one, that includes dusting the air filters (they are clean, I do clean that every few months).

Thing am worried about is since my card has been running like this for so long, if he goes and opens it up and I get it back and I start to having problems, I just ruined a really good card.

Can't really afford a new replacement, even if it's a second hand one that I seen sold here for £60-75. :/

I can't do it myself, since I don't have any supplies and £15 is reasonable. I used the place many years ago and the guy is good.

What do you think?
