Thought I'd just share this with folks as an alternative to the split pin used on the rear axel nut (in this case for my 2009 ER-6f).

I was getting a bit fed up of having to straighten out pins and replace them so I had a look around for alternatives.

Some people recommended large 'R' clips but I didn't think they looked very nice when installed. I did like the look of "lynch pins" though so I went ahead and ordered a couple in different sizes.

The smallest I could find (35mm x 4.5mm) seems to be suited best:

The pin itself was 4.5mm which was a little big for the hole in the axel thread. So I filed it down to around 4mm which now fits fine.

This means whenever I need to adjust the chain or remove the wheel I can just whip the lynch pin out and replace it again afterwards. And it doesn't look toooo bad, imo :p

Just in case anyone was interested :)

THIS is where I got the one I ended up using.

Just my opinion but I reckon a nice clean R clip looks neater.

To be honest, you don't even really need a clip of any sort on the spindles. If they are torqued up properly they aren't going to undo themselves. ;)

Maybe the R clips I tried were too big. Once inserted it stuck out a good 1-2"

Actually, I'll take a pic of one in the interests of public opinion :p
