The Mrs Fiesta mk7 has drums brakes on the rear, the car has done 84k and although I've done the front discs and pads a few times before I've never done the rear drums.

As far as I can tell the car drives fine.

Anyone know what the lifespan on these are, how often they need servicing?

They last years and years before needing replacing. There is an inspection hole on the back of the backing plate to see their condition just remember to put the rubber grommet back in after.

Ok thanks. I had no idea if I'm honest. Looking through YouTube videos looks like something I'd probably just get a local mechanic to do, looks like a complete ball ache for what I'd be saving.

I still have a 2009 MK7 Fiesta that only gets very occasional use in it now but I used to do a hell of a lot of miles in it. It’s now on 151k miles and the rear brakes have never had anything done to them. Handbrake still holds fine and it passed its MOT with no issues.

Admittedly the first 120k or so miles of the car’s life were a lot of motorway driving though. But it still seems that drums just don’t need all that much attention.

Perfect thank you, I will leave them well alone.

This one is also an 09 Mk7 84k miles, I have done the pads and discs twice on that car, first time they were pretty desperate, I did them again yesterday were not quite as bad (discs probably could have been left) but I did them anyway. They are pretty good little cars in my opinion, she has the 1.4 na petrol, puts out 94bhp I think, fuel consumption is very decent. Suspension arms have broken both sides on the front, and one has gone a second time but I attribute that to our god awful rural fenland roads around here, plus she doesnt even try and dodge potholes in the road which doesnt help, otherwise been pretty good.

Oh I had to replace one of the stock alloy wheels with a replacement I managed to find on ebay because it was buckled - god knows how that happened.

On light car like that the rear brakes aren’t doing much, especially if it’s usually driven with driver only.

The biggest risk is them leaking due to rusted cylinders. That’ll depend on how often the fluid has been changed.
