Rear Ended

A few things...

do NOT contact the witness unless you have to....
If it went to court and you had met the witness/bribed the witness etc (however misconstrude) it could harm your case.

Also... did you stop to let someone out of a side road? I'm not sure how that sits with the Highway code? ie they give way to you, you are supposed to keep moving.

I have had to ring my customers and cancel my appointments - Not good as money would be handy this time of year :(

If you've lost out on a lot of money, you can claim that back from him too (Loss of earnings, etc. Compensation should put you in the same position you were in before the accident occurred). Although that may involve going to court, but they may be willing to just settle if the figure sounds resonable.

Just back from A&E. I have bad bruising but nothing is broken (what I thought).
The Dr. said the insurers can contact the hospital for the record.

Its a nice thought getting the witness a little something but i'd leave it until after the claim has gone through.

That's what I was concerned about so won't do it atm.

I am just about to do some more calling around.

My Dad said I should take out the ICE from the car. Should I remove anything else?

Basically anything you want to keep, my dad drove his Mondy down to be assesed, picked up the courtesy car and drove off. The next day he was told it was a write off and he never saw it again.

Don't forget as soon as you accept an offer on it everything basically becomes there property, or at least thats my understanding of it.

Can I take things like my ST grille off etc...?

The GhiaX has lots of little things that are sought after on the owners club.

Do you have items to put back on to replace them?

Im sure you could get away with nicking a few bits......but you cant just strip it for bits :D

You have to replace things, for example if you take your new Alpine HU out you need to put the factory fit unit back in, so if you take the ST grill off put the standard one back on.

When my car got taken away i just took my sub out and face of my HU, i kept phoning up to see the cars situation they gave me 4 days to claim anything that was mine out of the car once it had been written off.

I stripped mine, took all my ice out and didn't replace any of it. I'd take what you can, if they take it away and write it off you'll never see it again.

I have taken out the amp sub and HU.

Also a few things i added like chrome interior handles (off of newer Mk2 mondeo) and also the leather Ford gear knob as I can replace these with the bits I have.

I had to hack up the original grille to make the ST one.

I will put the original HU back in, it isnt worth anything anyway as the LCD is broken on it.

Just remember if the car is a writeoff they will value it, not sure but things like this could result in a lower offer being made, if you can cover up the damaged screen it might be worth your while.

When I was rear ended by a van back on the 2nd of this month I took out EVERYTHING the following day. I took out the head unit, everything in the glove box, compartments, etc, took my headlight bulbs out, sidelights, driving light bulbs (all replaced by standard stuff) and the mats.

My car is still actually on the driveway and no-one has come around to asess it yet. God damn insurance companies

What do you mean damaged screen?

If they value it at a stupid amount I will tell them where they can go.

Absolutely, if they give you a crappy value for it don't take it! They should eventually give you a decent price for it.

How many miles has your car done?

Do a search on AT etc for a similar age/spec/mileage car to your own - you got it as a bargain by your own admissions but you should be able to get enough back to get a replacement of the same age/spec/mileage - always reject the first offer too ;)

Buy back the salvage if you can. I paid £50 for mine and sold it on eBay for £370. Easy money which might, in part, make up for the stress and hassle of having this happen in the first place.

I'm no mechanic at all but that looks a fair old knock. And from what you have also described of the damage, I'm not sure I'd trust it after an impact like that.

I'd just take out anything you want to keep, replacing with the original bits wherever possible.

Will your insurance provide a courtesy car? That might be worth looking into, given you need your car for work...

At least you walked away, no real harm done. Can always be worse....
