Rear Tyres Worn after only 13000 miles

My car (2013 Mondeo Mk4 2.0 TDCI) recently went through its MOT with flying colours, except, for an advisory on rear tyres:
  • Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge 3mm (5.2.3 (e))
  • Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge 3mm (5.2.3 (e))
This MOT was completed on the 3rd November 2021.

Back in September 2020 I fitted two new rear tyres. as the previous tyres had also worn on the inside edge. After fitting the new rear tyres in September 2020 I made sure to get 4 wheel alignment at Savoy Tyres. I did this to ensure the tyres wouldn't wear unevenly again.

Total mileage between rear tyre alignment (Oct 2020) and 2021 MOT: 13,354

I've since phoned Savoy Tyres and explained the situation. They're blaming it on road conditions and that there could be numerous external factors. They've offered a discount on tyres and another free alignment.

To me this is generous but pretty disappointing also.

Should I fight for more? This isn't anywhere near enough miles for rear tyres!

Also, could I have an underlying issue with the rear suspension causing this? Something the MOT test wouldn't detect?

Any Mondeo MK4 experts out there?

Thanks

Rob

To me it sounds as though they are offering more than they are obligated to, tyres definitely shouldn't have worn out that quickly but if they aligned and provided you with proof of being within manufacturer spec than they're not culpable.

This is the issue, there machine wasn't printing that day!

What is the wear across the tyre? Advisory only mentions edge. If the rest is 4mm then it isn't uneven.

Wear on the inside only sounds like the camber is off. Its sagging and too much negative camber. But on most cars it cant be altered at the rear. Needs a printout to show what is going on.

Just been out. Tyres are pretty much 4mm until it gets to the inside edge. The interesting thing is the tyres appear to be misshapen. Going to whip a wheel off at lunch to get pictures.

It's very odd.

What pressures? It would also help to see the centre channels.

The wear looks very wierd. Unbalanced wheel?

36 PSI

Yeah I think its a combination of worn suspension components and maybe unbalanced wheels.

For the price I'm going to replace the majority of the rear suspension and get new tyres, which will mean the wheels get balanced.

36 on the rear? Do you transport Anvils constantly.

Did you not think to look at the chart on the car for the correct ones. With normal loading they should be 35 front, 32 rear.
