Hi everyone,

my rear windscreen of my Mercedes A class (W176 This years model) was smashed on Saturday night and needs a complete replacement.

Autoglass are doing this tomorrow and I only have to pay the excess on my insurance, it was criminal damage and I have been paid by the person already.

However, what roughly is the actual cost of parts and fitting for something like this? Being Mercedes Benz, the rear window having the heated element, aerial included and rain sensors I'd like to know what this would cost normally, just out of curiosity.

Also are Autoglass good for making sure everything works as it should like the heated element and rain sensors etc?

My experience of Autoglass are great, I've never had a problem. Regarding the price, I'd guess approaching £600 but that's a total guess.

I know someone who works for Autoglass and he takes great care in what he does, he doesn't want a job he does to come back under warranty, none of the fitters do so I would not worry about it.

You'd be well into £500+ if you wanted to avoid insurance (Rain sensor ) is part of the windscreen not the rear.

As a windscreen fitted, I mate sure all functions affected by the bit of glass I've just fitted work and demonstrate this with the customer before I leave

Why not get a complete boot for a few tenners from a breakers yard ? Cheaper than messing about with new glass, even better if you find one in the correct color.

EDIT: derp, didn't notice it's a new car. That's a huge minus with newer cars :(.

Silly question, but can't ALL the damages including excess be claimed on this vandal ?

Cheers, I am feeling a lot more confident now :)

Quite right, I realised the rear window isn't a rain sensor about two hours after posting this, I was a bit over-flustered! So roughly £500-£600, I just wanted to know out of curiosity.
