Got woken up this morning by a neighbour telling me her husband was bringing in their bin and he noticed our rear windscreen shatter, by itself.

I go outside and sure enough, completely shattered, with a hole twice the size of my head on one side and the rest of it like sugar glass, they sort they use for "stunt bottles" in films etc.

Totally bizarre.

Autoglass are replacing it for £75 (They will go through my insurance company to claim the rest). They claim it will not affect my no claims and I will not pay an excess, I thought this only applied to chipped windows, not completely gone ones?

I should have looked around but thanks to their ****** jingle, they were the first ones in my head and they have a workshop local.

Does insurance windscreen cover, cover all Windows then?

Apparently so, I am with Direct Line.

I think all Windows are covered, apparently, the only time they wont do anything is if it is a previous repair which has failed. Obviously, that all depends on your insurer I guess.

Seems odd the insurance companies are actually helpfull. I expected to have to pay £250 for a window or something.

Well yeah.

'Uh, hi, I was just walking past with my stepladder and a bag of tools when, all of a sudden, your windscreen miarculously shattered on its own'.

SURE BUDDY THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW

You've looked inside the window for anything that might have gone through it? An xbox controller say, practising for GoW3 were we?

lol

To be fair, they live across the road so I dont think it is anyhthing sinister, unless it was a REALLY LONG step ladder :)

A friends Fiesta done the exact same thing.....except she was driving at the time.

Summers afternoon, driving along on her own....then smash. Whole rear windscreen just shattered!

I had this happen to my old Saxo - was on the A1 and heard an almighty bang, checked my mirror and the rear screen was like a spider's web. Totally bizarre.

As others have said, sometimes they do just go - my mate's 405 blew out a window in the same way.

Either that or someone has been throwing bits of spark plug at it.

The citroen AX was a favorite for that, the top half of the tailgate was the rear screen.
