Reasonable clock to try for with i5 750 in SFF

Hi,

I have an i5 750 in a Silverstone SG07 case with a Scythe Shuriken Rev. B cooling it. What would be a reasonable clock speed to expect in this setup, bearing in mind the capabilities of the heatsink/fan.

Thanks

Bit concerned that I'm almost touching 90C at 3.5Ghz with Prime95. I know the chip's good for way more than that, but the cooler doesn't seem to be. I can't hear it at all though - any ideas why the cooling fan isn't going a bit faster? Or is the Shuriken generally classed as a cooler that emphasises quietness over cooling power?

It's not one of the best coolers, according to this it's outperformed by the Intel stock cooler. Even so 90c seems hot, a reseat and new TIM might help but if you're overclocking then a better cooler would be the best bet imo.

I pulled 3.8 in an SG05 using an H50 on a 750, strived for 4ghz but couldn't get it stable. Realistically 3.6 was the best to go for temp/performance wise.

Incidentally, currently running 4ghz in a full ATX case on an Antec 620. Small cases suck for OC, I love the form factor but it doesn't lend itself to juicing as much as you can out of your hardware.

I'm surprised by this. The Shuriken Rev. B was recommended to me on this forum as one of the best coolers that would fit in my case. Unfortunately the case has nowhere to mount something like an H50.

This was the original thread where I asked:

There are few problems that cannot be solved with the addition of a massive fan: Space exploration; World peace; and of course overclocking temp problems. I decided it might be feasible to 'enhance' the airflow over the cooler by plonking a big fat 12cm fan directly on top of the weedy little one scythe provided.

(sorry about crap quality)

Results? I'm now Prime Stable @ 3.8Ghz with temps just touching 80 degrees (so probably mid 70s for gaming). And it really hasn't added any extra noise because the graphics card (GTX470 dual fan) is noisier - hell, even the big ceiling fan is noisier. That's a good 10 degrees cooler than the best I was achieving previously after tinkering about. I've spent days planning mods that weren't that effective!

Summary:

Extra Cost: £0
Extra Noise: Negligible
Extra Time: 2 minutes
Exra Heat: -10 celcius

I'd defo recommend this to other shuriken users.
