So the missus has decided she trusts me enough to get a bike license now, shes even paying as a birthday present

I already have a helmet and gloves, however my jacket needs replacing and I need boots and trousers.

Can anyone recommend brands, particular products or places to look for reasonably priced kit.

RST gear is cheap and not bad quality.

Muhh, I had RST leathers when I passed. Came off at silly 20mph and was less than pleased with trousers and jacket seams popping. After that I spent about double on Arlen Ness and have yet to find out about their seams!
HG does get decent feedback from people I've met, textile anyway.

Ebay, some proper bargains can be had!

A few months back I purchased a Dainese Jacket for the wife that she had been eyeing up at the dealer (at £350!!) I paid £75 and collected it from the seller and the purchase receipt was still in the pocket from 2 months previous!

BAR... GAIN

I've RST leathers, not come off but the Jacket seems to be of reasonable quality.

My boots aren't great though I've only had them 4 months and I only ride occasionally (including my license training) and the rubber on the sole beneath the toe shifts has started to wear and perish badly (I don't drag my feet).

Spend as much as you can afford. J&S shops are great as they have a lot of kit in them.

I quite like the Hein Gericke stuff, got their gloves and one-piece leathers for racing, prior to the gloves I had one crash with some ~£170 alpinestars gloves which split open (luckily no damage to my hand), the cheaper HG gloves have gone through 5 crashes with 2 of them being very similar without anything other than minor scuffing.

The one-piece leathers have gone through all 6 crashes, been fine for the most part, never had them fail scrutineering, but I have had some minor stitching done on two occasions (at the end of both seasons just to make then 'perfect' again, and first time to shorten the legs)
