Reasons for random wireless dropout?

I'm with virgin media at uni and it's a really heavily used connection, 5 students, with multiple pcs, consoles, smartphones etc.

The original router was a d-link jobby and that was rubbish, we had to reset it 10+ times a day.
I went out and bought a Cisco WRT120N and it's been better, don't get me wrong, much better. But it still drops once or twice a day.

Tried changing channels on the wireless to channel 6 which was unused by anyone in the street. Made no difference.

Any idea what I can check? Or is wireless unreliable by nature if you use it heavily, unless you invest in fancy business grade hardware.

When you say it drops, is it just temporarily? Could be a microwave or baby monitor.

I don't download torrents because I like everything on hard copy but my housemates do, and I'm not gonna dictate what can and can't be done on the communal internet.

How do I sort this NAT tables filling problem out?
