Hi Guys,

I need some help installing the OS (Win XP), for the first time on the system I just received.
i3 3220, 3.3GHz, DDR3.
Gygabyte H61Ma-D2V Intel H61.
Geil 8Gb DDR3,
Seagate barracuda 500Gb SATA.
OcUK 24x DVD RW.

DVD drive and HDD is showing.

I have tried to change the priority at Bios setup, I also tried to disconnect the HDD but the Win Xp disk won't boot up.

Any ideas?

Go into the bios and activate the boot menu option.

Then press either f9, f10 or f12.

Usually bash em all haha :D

If its not working at all, might be a problem with your actual disc?

thank you, tried all that and still goes back to the reboot message.

Do you think I should try another OS disk? I don't want to spend money on a new OS if that is not the problem

Does it say anything about "BOOT.MGR missing"?

Or does it give you any error messages?

Couple of options.
Maybe use another PC to burn a free OS like Linux and see if that boots from the drive.
Use another PC or laptop to move your OS disc to a bootable pen drive.

hi.
F9 gives me the system info.
F10 is the Save & Exit setup.
F12 is the screen capture status.

no error messages.

I shall try your option later on. Thank you for your prompt reply and help, I will feedback later.

You can upgrade to win8 for £20. its much better, apart from the metro but if you google "start8" you can get the old win7 awesome start menu back.

Hi Guys,

thank you for your help. I downloaded Linux mint 14 (iso), and it starts straight away. I guess there is a problem with my old Win Xp cd.
Damn! I don't want to spend 100+ on a new operating system!

Thanks again

Dont you have an old laptop or someone elses old computer os? If you can get your hands on a version of windows someone doesnt use(the seriel key) then it costs £20 to upgrade to win8.

maybe you can buy someones serial from somewhere?

I do have another pc with win 7 but it didn't come with an OS on disk, the operating system was already installed (Acer aspire R3610). Can i do something with that one?

I've no idea, ive never heard of an os locked to a pc. do a bit of googling. you own the os im sure, so you must be able to install on other computers if you need to.
