Hi My last build..and first was back in 2011.
I currently have
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H mother board
MSI N460 GTX...which I intend on using.
Corsair XMS3..CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 X2 of, though they are labelel as 3x2=6,I was supplied 2 as a 4gb combo with mobo and 3i processor.
Asus xonar dx soundcard, which I intend to reuse.
My psu is an ENERMAX Liberty 400W
I 'm going for a solid state hard drive, New and using existing seagate barracuda 7200 as storage.
I am upgrading to a 5i processor, perhaps more memory ,sshard drive, dvd rec .
Should I go for a bundle or go for the configurator choices available.
I'm asking what would be the best buy for my cash.
I surf, Use as hi-fi, play games though not online, occasional video editing photos etc.
Any sugestions would be appreciated

hi rjc,
thanks for the reply.
A budget of around £500 I would be happy with.
My case also needs renewing though functional rather than decorative is preferred.

Your motherboard is pretty old, it's for first gen i5's. I think we're about 3 sockets along from that now in the mainstream segment, so it won't work with any new CPU.

Ok.new then.

what would you recommend ?
based on i5 processor, what size psu would you go for? using my MSI n460 GTX for now.
A new ss hard drive, i was looking at the samsung 120Gb and my barracuda 500Gb for storage, music, photos, video etc.

Almost Complete new kit then.
I don't need to run the latest games though.
Thanks

thanks for the reply gabbatec.

For a Gpu I'm going to use my MSI n460GTX.

For a cooler, a new direct contact type, my old one is noisy, and seen better days.

I like the idea of DDR4 though SLI would be overkil for me, when the need arises, I will upgrade GPU.
I also need a case, I was conidering a Zalman T3

'Justify'..lol. Justify any purchase, though I get your drift.
I occasionally have binges of gaming. 1st person stuff.
My system is 4ys old and as above an i3 550. 1156 socket.

I hope to run xp pro to play my older games and 7 ultimate for newer games.
I could just upgrade my old rig but wtf treat myself, nothing too extragavant, and upgrade GPU when needed.
I presumed a faster processor was a good upgrade??

It is a good upgrade, think about it this way, you buy a new CPU, it will give you a fairly decent increase for a while, in all round speed and performance, and then you get a GPU when you can afford, or want to do so. This way, your not massively limiting a new GPU for a few months or whatever, and when you get your new kit, which presumably you will, you will see the increases straight away.

hi theaterix.
I need a new hard drive, in reality.
But because my rig is old I ve decided on a new kit.
I've put some stuff in the wish list, how can I link to it for an opinion.
Thanks for your input.
