Currently my system cut and pasted from my 2008 order :D....

Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter
Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5
Asus P5E Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ATA-100 16MB Cache -
Enermax 500w PSU
Rad 4670 1024mb GFX card

As you can see I don't game, I photo edit and play some old games. Nothing that a 64mb card can't run :D

Due to various problems over the last 18 months on W7 with that set up I'd like to upgrade. I don't mind who makes the CPU, but I do not want another Asus board. If possible I would like to keep the ram I have and will use the Antec case again. I also do not want and will not use a ATI gfx card again, 2 years of constant catalyst control center errors causing system lock ups have worn me down :D

So I'm looking for a CPU around £150ish
GFX card as quiet as possible, low powered a tad more powerful not important, non ATI is :)
Motherboard non Asus.
Power supply I imagine my 500w is powerful enough but it's knocking on and wouldn't hurt replacing it.

Maybe a 120gb SSD as well.

I don't have a budget as such, just looking for good matched components that will be solid reliable and serve me well for hopefully 3 years :)

Thanks :)

Well unfortunately you cannot reuse your RAM again because it is DDR2, and all new motherboards only have support for DDR3. Do you want a new DVD drive, or would you be happy reusing that?

Are you sure you don't want another GPU from, what is now AMD? They have improved immensely and have excellent cards.

I presume you wouldn't want to go Crossfire/SLI at all?

Is there anything specific you are looking for in a motherboard or any other components? How much storage would you need for example?

Are you going to want to overclock?

No I won't be overclocking at all. I definately do not want another ATI set of drivers on my PC. Any time I've ran them I've spent more time finding solutions.

Storage is all sorted, I had plenty of Sats's for my photos :)
DVD's drives all sorted as well.

So I need,

RAM 8gb
Mobo
GFX card non gamer just slightly better than what I have and non ATI
CPU around £150 to replace the Q6600
Power supply

Not entirely true, some motherboards have cross compatibility with DDR2/DDR3. Not sure which, if any Asus ones do, but I know some other branded ones like Gigabyte/Foxconn etc do.

To be honest though, DDR3 is cheap enough these days, you might get £10-£15 for the DDR2 ones if you sold them, so put another £15 or so towards some DDR3 ram ;)
