Hey. Today I've rebuilt my PC as I've housed it in a new case. The is the first time I've actually built one myself, but I believe I know enough to do so. Anyway, I go to boot it but nothing displays to the screen. Power it going to the GPU and CPU, all of normal LEDs are flashing as well as the fans. I have no idea why it isn't working, I've tried changing graphics cards.

When I try my 4870x2, the first 3 of the 5 LEDs on the back are lit up, if that means anything to anyone.

Anyone got any ideas?

what i would do is...

make sure all cables is plugged in. then physically make sure is plugged in properly
even the graphics card and all sorts

if all fails, take it apart and try again

anyway thats what i would do.

and make sure they are plugged in where they are suppose to be

oh yea plugged in the power cable to the graphics card?

it still have power from the pci-e slot but still need the external power cable

Yeah all of the cables are plugged in. From the PSU, I have a 4 pin going to the mobo, 6 pin to the GPU, 4 pin molex and 4 pin sata; everything is going to their proper socket. I can't for the life of me work out why the display is not being picked up, I've tried everything I can think of. =/

So everything starts up but there's nothing on the screen?

Maybe the monitor has gone bad, have you got a different monitor to try it on?

All of the fans turn on, graphics card included, then the GPU fan speed up and sounds nosier tan usual; but nothing is displayed.

It's definitely not the monitor, I've tried it on another and the same happens; besides, I was using this monitor earlier today.

It doesn't even display the BIOS if that makes a difference to anyone. I've tried replacing the PSU too, nothing. I've plugged in the off the cables I took out, so I don't think I can be messing anything required, bah.

if you no getting error code then must be something you not connected or misconnected
i assume everything was working before hand?

try clear bios on motherboard or something

i'm out of ideas.

make sure graphics card pushed into the mb properly
sometimes poorly made case got sizes slightly off, preventing you pushing the graphics card all the way in.

Hey Slynet,

only things I can think of that the guys didn't mention already . . .

  1. Are all the case header connectors in the right place (USB/Firewire/PWR/RST/LED) etc?
  2. Did you make sure all the case brass stand-offs were in the right place and that there isn't one in the wrong place just sticking into the back of the mobo?
If push comes to shove you will have to totally remove the motherboard and set it up on a carboard box to see if somehow the case is causing a short . . . use only the "minimal" wires and see if it magically comes to life? . . . just wondering also when you did the re-build did you remove the CPU from the socket? . . . could need a reseat/clean (if gunked with TIM on the underside)

Good luck!

Re-seat your RAM. I had this problem and couldnt for the life of me work out what was wring. I took out my RAM and put it in again and all was fine...
