Hello Everybody,
I am going to rebuild my gaming pc but I am getting very confused as to which motherboard & memory to go for. I am getting lag, stuttering & freezes in online gaming with my current rig & feel that it is high time for a change.
My current PC specs are:-
Case:- iCute ATX tower with 1 x 10" side fan and 1 x 120mm rear fan.
Motherboard:- Asus M4N78SE
CPU:- AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition @2.6GHz
Cooler:- Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Socket 775, AM2, AM2+, 939 Processor Cooler
GPU:- MSI HD7850 OC 2048MB RAM
Memory:- Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400
PSU:- Corsair RM Series RM 750 '80+ Gold' 750W
Hard Drive:- WD 1TB Caviar Black 64MB Cache, 7200 RPM
Sound Card:- Creative SB X-Fi with front breakout panel
Monitor: HP w1907 LCD
OS Win & SP1 32 bit
I am not aiming to replace the case, PSU or GPU. I already have a Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD, Win 7 SP1 64bit OS and a CREATIVE Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Champion sound card is on the way. I will be keeping the monitor for the moment.
My confusion is over the vast choice of motherboards and memory available. I am currently looking at 2 closely priced motherboards: - the Asus Z87-Pro and the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming but can't decide which is the right one to go for. I would like to try overclocking at some stage.
Regarding the processor, I am not sure whether to stick with the cheaper i5 4670k or the more expensive hyper-threaded option of the i7 4770k. I plan on using an aftermarket fan driven cooler, switching to water cooling later when more funds become available. I already know that a cooler with a 120mm fan will fit into my case as my current one is on the huge side.
Memory wise I can see that there is a vast range of DDR3 sticks available. I don't know if I am better of with 1600MHz or higher rated ones.
I currently play Call of Duty Black Ops 2 & Skyrim, but would like to play the latest incarnation of COD Ghosts, also Battlefield 4 & Skyrim V. I also do a little video editing currently but would like to do more in the future.
My budget is around £550.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks for reading through my post; I hope that it is not too rambling.
