Good evening all

I am gradually re building my pc after a bad PSU shorted out a few of my computer components.

I now have a new PSU, RAM modules and a X570 MOBO and would like to use my current 2700x cpu... The issue I have at the moment is I’ve not been able to test the CPU as I haven't had access to a spare motherboard.

I’ve never had a processor fail on me but if the processor was subject to some serious voltages previously from the faulty PSU could it do further damage if I popped it into my new motherboard.

Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated

pop on to ebay and find a cheap secondhand b350 mobo, nothing special, just needed to test your cpu, no memeory installed, that way you protect your new x570 mobo and ram from irreversible damage

Thanks for your reply wookiee87

presume the BIOS will boot (partway) without any RAM inserted. All it will do (if you have a speaker plugged in) is generally, beep three times indicating that the CPU is booting, and the BIOS is booting, but you have no RAM.

it certainly will, if you have the speaker you'll get a series of beeps indicating the boot stage, depending on which board you get it may have boot led's instead normally red, yellow, white and lastly green, but as you say with no ram installed it will stay on yellow usally, if the board you choose has led's and stays on red that indicates a problem with the cpu.

failing the above most b350/x370 should have a post code dial on the mobo near the botom or top coner which will display a series of numbers depending what they land on will be either a bad cpu or no ram installed
