Anything better than the vision m?

Thinking of getting an mp3 player soon, been looking at the Zen vision m, seems to have good reviews here generally. Really like the 30gig space, video playback sounds like a good idea for long journeys.

I need something that is not too big, but has good battery life.

Dont really want to get an ipod, as im not very fond of them. My mate a while ago had the zen xtra, really liked that, easy to use.

Anything out there right now much better than the zen?

well, not really tbh. the zen v:m has almost everythign you could want in a small player - better codec support than an ipod, better interface with the pc (no itunes, ever) ect ect ect.

as far as small video players go, there isnt anything better atm. be aware they do scratch like the ipods, so a decent cover is definately recommended:)

I might get an ipod and run iPodLinux and/or RockBox on it...I'm not really up to date on current portable music players mind

Are there any hard drive players around these days that play all sorts of music formats, mp3 ogg wma aac flac etc, out of the box, without modified firmware? Or is running modded firmware the only way to achieve this? The ability function as both a USB client and a USB host would be nice too...all in a small(ish) 60GB or something device?

How does the vision:m handle its media files? Is it based on the ID3 tags? or can it be based on the file system? (i.e if the folders are named for the artists? artist/ablum/song.mp3) Thanks

Right, im going into a shop tomorrow to see if i like it, and to check on the size and stuff

If i like it, then ordering it online.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Went into shop and saw the vision m, and i am now more sure that i want this product. Felt much nicer than i thought it could do, really nice screen - bold colours, good contrast. Need to get the hang of the scroll thing, bit too twitchy on my first try.

Thanks for the comments again guys

after a while the interface gets easy, you just need to learn the differebnce between pressing up and selecting etc

whats with the ipod bashing? theres absolutely nothing wrong with itunes at all or with the ipods themselves IMO.

Its just a matter of thoughts mate. Some people like them, other dont. I wouldnt class myself as anti-ipod as they are good players, but i class myself as very anti-itunes. Make the ipod a drag and drop player and id consider it, its the software deterring me.

Im also pretty much definately getting the vision:m after my post yesterday and some investigation online, they seem very good. One word of warning though, the black player is supposed to be just as bad for scratching as the ipod, so it may be worth getting some form of protection for it. As for the touch pads, you do get used to them, my H10 has one and it took me a few days to get used to it, although i believe you can alter the ensitivity of it if you find it too much.

THIS review made the final decision for me, the quality of the screen looks brilliant compared to the ipods, and the ipods isnt too shabby.

im going to get one of the best skins ever skins for my zen m, its clear plastic and stick to the player like the film that comes with gadgets from the factory.

Thats the stuff im looking at too, dont want to invest £30 in another leather case. It looks mint, you seen the video where they go at the player with a set of keys and it doesnt even make the cover flinch :)

EDIT - THATS the video :)
