I don't use any codec packs because I use VLC. The three links are just the ones I know of. If I were to choose any codec pack I would go for the CCCP, I've read about it on the Internet and it seems to have the right idea in giving you the codecs you'll most likely need and in a fashion that you can get rid of them easily. The K-Lite and Cole2K.net codecs I've never used and so can't vouch for them, but it doesn't seem as if you want recommendations but just help in finding the one you used to use.

K-Lite is very good, but you could always go for VLC player - that way you don't need to install a load of codecs and possible mess things up, you'd just have VLC which plays anything.

Ive only ever had the K-Lite one, never needed another plays everything you throw at it

K-lite when i last used it a year or so ago, had all kinds of incompatible codecs - certain films would show up green etc etc.

Forget dloading codecs and dload VLC - job done.

I am starting to really like VLC b ut currently use Medi Player Classic (Real/Quicktime Alternative) and that has played everything I have thrown at it as well.

One question for thge VLC fanboys, is there a way of displaying the progress bar of a video on the screen, if I use full screen on playback I can find no way of seeing the progress etc. In MPC moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen reveals the progress bar, something similar in VLC would finally win me over?

Don't think so. Not really sure. I never really play fullscreen :|

MPC is also the only player that will play sub files with a dvd :D

yes, get GSPOT codec information program thing

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

find one of the files that plays in grey / wierd sound

open it with gspot, tell us what it says

PS if you are getting this in VLC then you might wanna try uninstall all those crappy codecs 9/10 times its incompatability between them
