hello folks, i've just beenout on a whim and bought a phenom II x4 940 black edition cpu off ebay. but it isnt supported on my current motherboard, a foxconn a690gm2ma, and a bios update doesn't seem to fix it.

so i'm gonna have to defer the rent another week and get a new motherboard.

the only criteria is A) 4 ddr2 ram slots, B) pci-e slot for gfx.

i'd prefer it to be as cheap as possible aswell.

thanks in advance.

well you're looking at a socket AM2+ board. whatever you go with, it will have at least one PCIe x16 slot, and 99.9999% have 4 memory slots, so those shouldn't be a problem.

i personally wouldn't reccomend foxconn (only got mine cos it was cheaper than competition and it looked pretty ... big mistake).

generally people go for Asus/gigabyte. As you're talking about deferring rent and want cheap, id look at the boards with either a 770 or 780G chipset. (the only major difference is that the 780G has integrated graphics ... and pretty dam good integrated at that.)

Go with what Thingy said.

Just before purchase, visit the motherboard manufacture website, and check the CPU support list to check what ever your looking at will take the CPU.
