Reccomendations for a racing bike [bike to work scheme]

Hi, im looking for a new bike as im looking to partake in the cycle to work scheme [think its meant to be 40% off in cost]

atm i have a cheap steel framed racer but am after something better. Im not really sure what to spend, and at what point cost goes up significantly for small gains.

i dont mind spending up to £400 myself without the discount so i guess thats putting the total cost near £700,

if this isnt enough i can go higher, but obviously not if the benefit is small.

I really have no idea, i got my bike years ago, it was just a cheap one from halfords.

Find out who your scheme is with. There are lots of different schemes and typically a retailer will only sign up for one which can restrict you. Then go to a retailer and get fitted. It's vital that the bike fits properly otherwise you'll have all manner of aches and pains.

This is the government funded one, think it just involves the company writing a cheque, yeah I was planning on going to a proper shop not just picking one off the shelf

They aren't government funded, it's just that you don't pay tax on it.

And many more. Alternatively your company may administer the scheme itself, but not many do.

As I say, the scheme your company has chosen can restrict your choice of bike.

Not sure what you mean. If you don't want an "off the shelf" bike you will need to pay a lot more than your budget.

i mean i don want to just buy one off the internet without trying it out first, i dont mean custom or anything

i know the scheme isnt retailer limited i just assumed it was government funded
