I think dell one are a bit over my limit atm

how about Belinea 2225S1W 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver coming soon? :D
looks a good monitor, but lacks HDCP and DVI... but uses a TN film panel(same as the 2235wm and asus acreen) so would look good for games...

Sorry Lance that wasn't meant to seem as a dig at you, more to some posts further up the thread - specifically MrLOL's "HD will play just fine over DVI or VGA". Technically correct (HD will) but wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong for HDDVD.
Also, as the OP seemed confused, I thought this might clear it up.

HDCP isn't quite the same as what is on video tapes.
The video tape system prevents you from copying one tape onto another tape, and doesn't affect or have anything to do with playback.
However, if you try to watch HDCP content and some of your equipment doesn't support HDCP, you will have your picture degraded to standard DVD resolution.

Also, you're probably right about there being ways round it. As usual, HDCP does nothing to protect the discs themselves. I give it 6 months until the copy protection scheme on the discs is cracked and they can just be ripped like a standard DVD.

any monitor will play HD

but not any monitor will play HD DVD or Blu Ray DVD. For that you need a monitor with HDCP. Only a few have these, the Dell 2007WFP, the 24" 2407WFP and the 24" Ben Q

not sure about any other but i think thats it.

i already posted that he'd need a monitor with HDCP support for blu-ray or HD-DVD. the poster asked if he need to use DVI to watch HD trailers from apple.com. which of course you dont

read before you reply in future.

*changes the thread to Spec me a great 19" tft or a 20-22" under 250* :D

Thanks for all the info people.

Think i'm sticking with a 19 inch monitor as there's to much of a jump for a 20inch one plus the fact i'm spending around 700 on a building a new system i just can't afford to spend loads on a monitor.

I was wanting a widescreen but if there's problems with games i'm not sure if i should opt for one of these instead OcUK Value Hanns-G HC194D 19 ???

the issue is that most games dont support widescreen resolution out of the box. However some (like Halflife) do. Others (like need for speed most wanted and Battlefield 2) can with a bit of reading up and tinkering with config files or command lines.

have a look at www.widescreengaming.com for a list of what games can or cant be run in widescreen.

I own a 20" WS. and use my machine allmost exclusively for gaming, and i've never had a problem. oh and CS:source looks amazing in ws.
Answers the question. Some will stretch the UI and don't adjust your FOV for the extra width but generally it isn't much of a problem and a lot of games do now support it natively with more on the way.

I think reading all these replies has made me more confused :D

So i am thinking of a 19 or 20, i have a friend saying get the Dell E207wfp 20.1" without USB or extra inputs for £255 inc postage and i'm honestly in 2/3/4 mins right now, is the dell one without all the extras ie: input ports and usb ports just as good or a less model overall?
