Hey all,

Bit of advice here please? I received a letter yesterday from the motor insurance database people warning me that my car was not on the database as insured and hadn't been declared as sorn.

I rang the MID people and they gave me the 'ring your insurers' line so I did that.

Elephant could see no reason why the car had been removed from the database and said they'd apply a small change so that their system re-submitted the policy to the MID. The guy on the phone assured me 24 hours max it'd be sorted.

Low and behold today it still isn't showing on the database, so I rang them again and "its in progress//being looked into" - this is all well and good but if for example like tonight I've got a migration to do the police can't ring elephant at 12am to confirm I actually am not an uninsured ***** scummer!

So I guess my questions are, has anyone had this before? How long did it take to fix it? I believe merlin used to be in the insurance game - if you're still around please explain to me!

Thanks :)

I've got the certificate, its just a bloody nuisanace, and infact even today my car still isn't down as insured!

You are insured, so dont worry about it. If you get pulled explain the situation and hand in your docs in 7 days, what are you worrying about???

Doesn't work like that anymore, they will phone the insurance and find out on the spot. They police are not allowed to let a potentially uninsured car continue on it's journey.

If the insurance company isn't available, I suspect they won't tow his car away if everything else checks out?

I think I best ring elephant again. If they try and tow my car away for elephants screw up I won't be happy! The problem is, some of my migration jobs are after elephant close so the police wouldn't be able to check docs!

Typically they are closed! I have a taxi run to do after a job tonight so this could be rather unamusing :(

They do indeed, elephant have assured me that i am not crazy, I did pay £250 in February and am definately insured :)

Same thing happened to me back in November last year, insurance company made a small amendment and re-submitted my details and said everything would be okay. Lo and behold in January I received a £100 fixed penalty notice, conatcted my insurance who said there was nothing else they could do, I replied to the fixed penalty notice with copies of my insurance cert and all the letters I had recieved from my insurance company on this matter, within a couple of weeks I had a letter from MID saying to ignore the fixed penalty notice and they would look into the matter.

As I said that was back in January and to date its still not been sorted, I've given up calling them as I never get anywhere, I just keep checking my reg number on the MID web site and I'm still uninsured as far as its concerned.
What makes me mad is they can issue these letters and fines on flawed information but I cant find any way to escalate this back to them, also because of this I can no longer tax my car online as I have always done, I had to waste half an hour queuing in our local post. office

Police would ring 24hr claims line to confirm cover. It's no big deal other than it may be the reason OP gets pulled in the first place.

elephant doesnt have a 24 hour claims line. It doesnt open til 8am !

somebody on here had exactly that ! they towed it for no insurance and they couldn't ring to confirm. Think he was with that cheap company that went into administration recently (couple of years ago) ? iirc.
