Just had a package delivered to my house, by mistake. It's for a street off mine.
Signed without checking things, but I am expecting stuff and my brother often gets things posted to the house still.

I decided to take a walk to the correct house to hand deliver but there was no answer, although the garage door did slam shut when I was there.

But I was thinking, yes I am doing the correct thing moraly, but could they ever come back and claim I stole the package even after handing it over?
My signature is on the system, electronic pad for signing. Or would it revert back to driver error? Should I call UPS and report it and let them deal with it. Even though it took me less than 5mins to walk to their house.

Common sense is telling me different things.

You clearly dont trust them as you dont know them, ring UPS and make them sort it out.. saves you the hassle of being defrauded :)

Will try again in the evening.
I'll contact UPS if I can't deliver it then and in case the correct poeple come back and try and claim fraud against me.

I know it's not mine to keep, I had no intention of keeping it. Looking at sender's adress it's Molton Brown.

Video yourself putting it in his letterbox, then post it on YouTube.

Become an internet sensation overnight as "the weird English man who vids himself posting things".

Not only will you become famous & rich beyond your wildest dreams - you will also have evidence if they then try to claim you stole it (after hearing about your said rise to stardom)

Try and deliver it, if not, stick a note through their door saying you have their package and that you accepted it by accident as you were expecting something.

Why do people find the simplest things so bloody difficult? God forbid you ever move to a house where the previous occupier is still receiving mail, you'll probably have a panic attack.

Also why is it that every time someone asks for advice on this forum they always worried about the law? Be it how they can apply it to someone else or worried about it being applied to them.

Just write on it "not known at this address" pop it back in the post box and forget about it. Anything that looks important contact the old owners, if they left details.
