I bought a new monitor from another retailer online, received it today and the box is very rough looking and marks all over it looks like its had a few trips, the original security tape has been cut and taped over on one side of box.

The other side Its just normal tape and no security tape and the carry handle on the box is snapped and there is a flap of card open that you could see inside of box.

I have not opened it yet as I think Its somebody else return that has been sent to me!

wishing I had used ocuk now

I don't think the security tape means much.

If the item is brand new condition, the you have been sold it correctly.

Not everyone uses these tapes for example.

You yourself can use it and return it within 7 days as long as it is in new condition.

I sent back a asus swift pg278q as it had serious back light bleed, but that box had full asus branded security tape on it with nothing that had been opened.

So I ordered the pg279q and that's whats come today but you could see the box had been opened both sides and re sealed.

For the price of the monitor I don't want to be taking chances!

Keeping in mind you had already sent back a monitor with an issue, maybe the supplier opened and tested the monitor ?

Have you tried PG279Q yet ?

No not opened box yet,I couldn't see retailer doing that? I am going to wait until i hear what they say first for why Its been opened before It come to me.

If its been shipped from a European warehouse they would likely swap in a UK plug for you. They may also be doing a quick visual check for obvious damage before sending it out.

Really.... as long as it's new (You can check inside the box) and it works. I don't really see the issue.

Obviously if it was a pair of soiled underwear i'd understand your anger :D, I mean it's annoying but hardly the end of the world assuming it's all in perfect nick and works.

I used to work for a reseller, and I had this happen a few times with laptops. What the depot monkeys do (DHL, Citylink, Fedex etc) is they'll do exactly what you've just written. Slit the box underneath, pull the laptop out (monitor in your case), replace it with a brick, then re-seal. Then as far as the driver is concerned, it's a-ok because the box hasn't been opened at the top and none the wiser. Then we have to foot the bill because the courier won't accept responsibility and cue disgruntled customer because they have lost their data. The depot monkeys know that they can get away with it because they're usually temps and won't be there in 2 months time after the uni holidays.

I remember when ocuk was doing it with cpu's, it turned out they were testing them to find the best clocker. This was ages ago mind.

The problem with that is they were presumably using the best overclockers in their own systems, leaving the worse ones for everyone else.

A competitor etailer was doing checked (ie no faulty pixel) monitors for extra cost, but this meant that if you didn't pay more for a checked monitor, you presumably got one of the failed ones put back into the box and sent out to you.

Nothing wrong in you taking it out of the box, inspecting, trying it. You can always replace as found. It comes with a full warranty?

Yes, once you've got it an accepted it, you might as well at least check it out. It might be perfect. I've had a few things in dodgy looking packaging that's been one hundred percent perfect. If it's faulty, you can still send it back.
