Evening all! I'm about to sell and post an item worth £500 to a buyer in Germany - I'm going to ask for the money to be transferred to me via Paypal's friends & family service, so that there is no risk to me as the buyer can't claim it back.

I've never done this before - does the above sound acceptable or would bank transfer be preferable? Is there anything I'm missing, like ridiculous currency conversion fees or something?

I've had a quick Google, but I prefer to ask here. Thanks in advance.

See if they want to use something like UKforex.co.uk, or equivelant. It's pretty easy once set up and exchange rates are better. I have no experience using the PayPal method though, and it may be more of a pain for the buyer. The benefit to you is it'll come as UK bank-uk bank transfer.l so no international fees your end.

I would ask for a bank transfer if you don't know the buyer. Paypal 'gift' payment just rings scammer and it's not as safe as you might think.

A buyer from Germany should be perfectly comfortable with international bank transfers.
