Hi,

Go to use my machine tonight and it is no longer posting. It's a self built machine about 2 months old which has been fine. Last used a couple days ago and powered down gracefully.

Today switch it on and no output to the monitor, mouse light stays on, no output to keyboard (no lights). All fans spinning, hard drives sound like they spin up. Light in top right corner cycles through red orange white green. So it thinks it has booted. If I remove GPU it stays at white which seems right.

I admittedly have not tried removing the ram yet as I'd have to take the rad out but the diag light on the board doesn't complain about a memory issue.

It's looking like the board may have died in its sleep!?

Specs
Ryzen5 1600
Team group dark pro 8pack ram 3200 16gb
Strix b350 motherboard
GeForce 1080ti

Any ideas? Pretty gutted. I'm very much out the loop these days in this but I can't think what could die suddenly like that.

Thanks

Forgot to add..

I have reset the cmos,
Removed gpu,
Unplugged all USB,
I actually removed the bios battery to try and get some different behaviour. That did make it powercycle continuously, judging by the sounds it was making.

Do you have a motherboard speaker plugged in? I checked your motherboard's manual and unfortunately, it doesn't have debug LEDs and have to rely on the beeps to check the problems.
The system then runs the power-on self tests (POST). While the tests are running, the
BIOS beeps (refer to the BIOS beep codes table) or additional messages appear on
the screen. If you do not see anything within 30 seconds from the time you turned on
the power, the system may have failed a power-on test. Check the jumper settings and
connections or call your retailer for assistance
The BIOS beep codes can also be found in the manual.

So it thinks it has booted.
Double check that the monitor is still set to the correct setting/input/output - and at the same time disconnect/reconnect DP/HDMI cable?

If you're using an DP cable try unplugging the monitor for 5 minutes - and pressing the monitor power button to deplete all power (odd test - but GTX 9/10 cards can have problems with DP cables and some have fixes with BIOS upgrades. I suggest you check yours).

Disconnect/reconnect power and sata to the OS drive and motherboard.

Check all other cables etc and if booting from an extension lead try plugging the computer directly into the mains.

If none of that works you'll have to move onto memory/other tests etc...

This is the motherboard speaker that I'm talking about btw. Seems like your motherboard failed the power-on self test.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I don't have a speaker, found it odd there was no LCD display on this board. My old case is in the garage that may well have a speaker il get that plugged in. See what happens.

Also yes is using a display port, I have tried what you suggested made sure the monitor is on the right channel. No go there.

Checked all the cables unplugged all the un needed drives.

Hopefully I have a speaker to test. Will try that tomorrow morning and report back.

Thanks

Ps sorry posts are a bit erractic using my phone (Only have one PC :D)

Morning,

So its back to life again.

Managed to un-weld a motherboard speaker form an old case.

One short beep - keyboard not detected...

plugged in a wired keyboard and its back to life.

Rebooted again and plugged in original wireless keyboard and still all OK. Pretty weird/worrying i keep the bios well up to date last about 3-4 weeks ago i think.

Not sure what else i can do at this stage,

Thanks for the advice about the speaker TheGez

If you're not doing so already I would experiment with a different USB port for the wireless keyboard.

Thanks, annoyingly when i took the keyboard sensor out I didn't note which/type of port it was in. Tried both USB2 and 3 so far cant get it to break again.

Just checked and there is another new bios update will throw that on now.
