Recent cannibis thread! :(

Peeps what happened to that thread about that BBC program discussing about cannabis and growing it etc with that martin fowler guy lol!

Interesting. I remember a thread last year about an informative BBC program on skunk. All the resident OCUK pot-heads were screaming blue murder, accusing the Beeb of being a government propaganda outlet peddling a biased and unfair anti-drugs message.

Now the BBC puts on a program cheerfully discussing home-grown cannabis, and suddenly all the pot-heads are silent.

Talking about drugs isn't though, nor are new designer drugs, nor is having taken drugs in the past.

Many new designer drugs ARE illegal of course, while some are not. And since you can guarantee that many posters aren't keeping up with the nuances of the MDA in its current form:

Any compound structurally derived from 2-aminopropan-1-one by substitution at the 1‑position with any monocyclic, or fused-polycyclic ring system (not being a phenyl ring or alkylenedioxyphenyl ring system), whether or not the compound is further modified in any of the following ways, that is to say,
(i)by substitution in the ring system to any extent with alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl or halide substituents, whether or not further substituted in the ring system by one or more other univalent substituents;
(ii)by substitution at the 3-position with an alkyl substituent;
(iii)by substitution at the 2-amino nitrogen atom with alkyl or dialkyl groups, or by inclusion of the 2-amino nitrogen atom in a cyclic structure.

- as an example - you can be pretty certain that at some point someone will admit to taking something which is illegal. And the Dons consider that (as best as I can tell) to be encouraging illegal activity. At that point, goodbye thread. As long as the exercise remains theoretical, there's no problem, but there's always someone showing off about their narcotics intake.

Having not seen either documentary I cannot be sure of the reason, but I suspect that the former "skunk" documentary was full of misinformation & poorly presented facts, mostly concerned with the supposed negative impact of stronger cannabis strains, while the latter was more about the positive benefits of the weaker home-grown strains when grown for medicinal or recreational purposes. It's not really surprising that pro-cannabis members raged about one and not the other, if that's the case.

The thing that really shocks me is that people on both sides of the argument still manage to support biased studies as evidence for their case while blatantly ignoring the other side's solid, respectable results. Yes, cannabis can be dangerous and has all but conclusively been linked to long-term mental health issues. Yes, cannabis use is firmly linked to demotivation and lack of achievement, though there will always be exceptions on one side or the other. Yes, cannabis holds a place in low-level organised crime and currently poses a huge burden on the economy through enforcing often-confused laws and subjective sentencing. No, cannabis does not produce mental health problems in those for whom those problems are not already latent (assuming a safe age limit for consumption to detract from the impact on the developing brain). No, cannabis is not 'highly addictive'. No, cannabis is not a 'gateway drug'. Yes, cannabis is safer to consume than cigarettes & alcohol. No, there's no solid reason for it to be illegal. Yes, the debate is getting very, very tired and no, you're not going to convince a proponent of the opposition to acknowledge your point of view.

If i recall most people were slating the actual programme. Have you got any links to specific posts so you can call out individual posters rather than placing everyone who posted in that thread in one 'pot'. ;)

MDA nuances? anyway to avoid making another thread a debate and gettign it moved/deleted i'll be quick and to the point.

Bbeen there done that got the t-shirt.

only advice I have is be careful and be honest with the paramedics when it goes **** up :)
