Hi guys,

Had my XPS1730 (T9300 @ 2.5GHz, 4bm ram, sli 8800gtx) for nearly a year now. Had worked flawlessly during this time up until about 6 weeks ago. During playing my favourite game (Comapany of Heroes) i now experience massive drop in fps, to the extent the game crawls to its knees and i get kicked, after getting a msg telling me my video settings are too high. This had originally started during long sessions but since it has got worse and worse and now after just 10mins the problem starts. The game had worked absolutely fine at very high setting since i bought my laptop.

I have tried everything to remedy the problem, including:

* Reducing the video setting
* Updating drivers (tried lots of different ones)
* Re-installing the game
* Playing wired to the router and wifi, and at different locations
* Complete format of Windows
* Even tried 64bit Vista

No good, infact the problem has got worse over time.

I have scanned the forums to establish if anyone else has experienced similar problems but this proved fruitless.

Today, i bit the bullet and phoned Dell, which i really didn't want to do! After 2 hours on the phone, explaining the above and the guy wanting to do some tests, it was decided an engineer is comming round my house tomorrow to replace the graphics cards!

I wanted to send it back to Dell so they could do a full set of tests but no, they want to replace both my graphics cards, which must be at great cost to them.

I hope this will fix the problem, but the interesting thing for me is, i have had video card problems in the past with a different machine. When this happens, you can experience streaky lines accross the screem, BSOD etc but i have had none of that. I am not totally convinced the problem is to do with the gfx, but maybe the processor, or maybe due to overheating. I do run some temp software to keep an eye on the heat and, although my system does get hot (70+ degrees during intense gaming sessions), this appears to be well within tollerence for the machine.

fingers crossed.
