Any of you guys notice that? mscorsvw.exe is precompiling .NEt assemblies in the background and taking forever doing it.

I started a manual compile job on it instead and that's the same. CPU usage at a constant 28% and taking forever... It's been hours.. sheesh

Would the update in question be service pack 1 if so then just run a repair install of the .net framework 4 client profile (even if it isn't SP1 that was the update in question then still do the repair just in case) since I had a problem after the SP1 update with the that program hogging memory and CPU cycles and a quick repair install it started working properly.

It hasn't taken hours for me, but on a fresh update of win7 to a VM, after running windows update the first time, it can take > 30 mins. During that time the cpu is used 100%.

Any subsequent updates take between 1-5 mins to sort out. This is on a VM with only 2gig ram and a single cpu core! So if it's taking you longer with a real machine, something not quite right?

sounds like the compiler for the .net framework is doing its stuff. ngen.exe is the program that compiles the framework files. there is command to execute all queued items but the info is on my server. do search on net. either way just leave the pc alone to do its stuff and it will finish eventually.
