So i just formatted my laptop, well did the restore program that comes with newer acer laptops. The laptop was running fine, i just had an issue with getting some services to run - the format fixed this and my 3g dongle now works.

However the laptop now feels reallyyyy sluggish. For example double clicking on a contact on msn to open up a convo box, i click it then it hangs for like 2-3 seconds before opening up the box. It never used to do this. The graphics driver is up to date, games run fine but general desktop activities feel so sluggish.

Any possible reason?

Try using the Resource Monitor, particularly under the CPU and Disk tabs, to see if you can catch a naughty process red handed while things are running slow. Push the silly graphs off the right hand side and just concentrate on the table activity.

I recently found an issue with "msmpeng.exe" (Windows Defender/Microsoft Security Essentials) while trying to watch a DVD via VLC on a friend's laptop which I went on to fix.

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Resource Monitor

edit: A quicker way to execute the program is via Start -> begin typing "r..." in the search box and Resource Monitor should appear at/near the top of the list.
