Recently used apps refreshing completely when you go back to them, now?

I've had this for a few months now. Not sure if it's related to an Android update or maybe my phone's RAM dying or something weird.. dunno? But basically when I swipe up across the home button and get to my recent apps; it used to be that you would go straight back into the app. E.g. a website you were just on was immediately there and scrollable etc. Now what happens is the app I go back to seems to want to refresh itself. E.g. if I go back to Chrome the whole page refreshes and I have to wait for it to load. It's extremely frustrating! If I swipe left across the home button the last-used app also completely reloads.

Does anyone know why this might be? Using a Xiaomi A2 Lite updated to Android 10 (1st Sep 2020)

Doze will still work as normal, it's only when you turn off adaptive battery it will affect it. You'll need to wait for Xiaomi to have a proper fix before turning it back on.

Turning off Xiaomi's extra battery management won't affect battery, and instead will allow apps to perform properly (eg WhatsApp may have delayed notifications if they're kept on).

I just realised your particular model runs Android One, in that case my link is useless since it's aimed at MIUI. Android One devices are extremely close to stock so battery and RAM management should be just like the Pixel phones.
 
My Samsung Note 4s, Note 8 and Xiaomi A2 Lite have been doing this for a long time. I reckon it was a Google update around 12-18 months ago that did it as it affected all my phones at around the same time. In all cases for the affected Apps (i.e. the ones that p*** me off the most when they do it) even removing them from optimisation makes no difference.
