Hey - I have a pair of rechargeable battery packs that don't seem to take a charge - the charge light flashes a few times, then turns off, then starts up again - rinse and repeat. The packs haven't been used very much, they are to power a pair of heated gloves. The last time I used them the gloves powered off after a while, guessing the gloves have discharged the packs to a point where they will no longer take a charge? Any way to make them work again? I don't really want to splash out for a genuine set of batteries as they're about £90 for a pair - the packs above were about £20 for the pair! Appreciate any help - ta

 
If Li-ion batteries stay in a discharged state for too long, and/or are overly discharged, they become permanently damaged (some packs have protection circuitry to prevent it but that only goes so far) - you may be able to recondition charge them but I highly don't recommend it as they will likely become dangerous and even if successful usually will quickly fail again.

You almost certainly don't need to splash out on "genuine" batteries as a pack like that should be possible to find compatible generic ones (it is probably just a pair of 18650 batteries in those packs).

Ye, I wired those on. So these are boned then, just replace 'em with a couple new packs is the general consensus then?

Edit: The genuine packs are from RevIt and are 90 sobs for a pair https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/product/revit-battery-for-heated-gloves-black-one-size I wasn't going to pay that much for a set of batteries, so bought the above with a different connector on and wired in the barrel connector so I can use them in my gloves

Those urgenex packs may not have over discharge protection, hard to tell from the details, and may depend on what they are plugged into to manage that which isn't great with Li-ion and stuff like heaters don't tend to implement it so will just run the batteries to exhaustion and kill them fairly quickly.

if so probably a good idea to determine runtime, and ensure you charge up, say x hours or if doing the same riding, x days
 
Okie dokie. I'll bin this pair off and get another cheapo pack. I'll use the genuine ones for the most part and keep the cheapo ones as backup and set say an hour's timer on them. Ta for the guidance :)
Unless there's a better option out there with built in over-discharge protection

I get that on one finger so fortunately not that bad, likely generic as my mother gets it more like those pictures.

Biking or driving only times it really happens and mostly if I remember to relax doesn't happen except sometimes when it is really cold.
